Listen To Britain

  • An exploration of modern day Britain, fractured by race, class and gender.

This spiritual successor to the 1942 original tracks the vibrant yet tumultuous growth of Britishness over the past century - giving voice to the new reality of Britain; one that has been formed through flourishing multiculturalism. Academics and artists are interviewed to explore both past and present, and consider what a future Britain may look like.

Listen To Britain is currently being studied as a key viewing on the core module Decolonising Film Form and Contents at Queen Mary University of London, where Alysha has given talks discussing decolonising film form, structure and style.

Showcased and supported by the UK Asian Film Festival.

SAFARI

  • Can femme sexual liberation be achieved in a society so dominated by the male gaze?

What is the relationship between the watcher and the watched?

In a world so concerned with surveillance, can we ever truly reframe how we observe each other?

Comparing the voyeurism of animal enclosures to the cultural consumption of femme-identifying bodies, SAFARI takes aim at the frameworks our species have built - and how they force us into toxic relationships with each other and ourselves.

Immersive sound guides the audience through an abstract world, where concave aluminum mirrors deceptively warp their surroundings. Through recorded conversations, Safari gives individuals from a diverse range of global backgrounds a distinct voice, laying bare the impact of male sexual and social entitlement though the words of real people discussing their experiences seeing and being seen.

Showcased and supported by Camden People’s Theatre and RUNT Performance Art.

SÉANCE?

  • You are dying.

    Nothing to be concerned about.

    That’s always been the case.

Are you done dying? is an immersive experience that shepherds players through an introspective journey into themselves. Informed by Yoga Nidra and body scanning techniques, the experience utilises Augmented Reality and geolocation technology to bring players face to face with their own mortality; giving them a birds eye view on their lived experience and, in turn, challenging their own relationship to death.

Showcased and supported by The Old Market Theatre.

Following an explorer’s search for life on Mars, Roving In Solitude harmonises themes of isolation and loneliness against small but significant moments of gratitude; functioning as an invitation for audiences to find little pockets of joy whenever they can.

Supported by Royal Holloway University of London.

Across

  • Iona Marshall awakes on the banks of an otherworldly river. She's dead, or so says Charon - the unearthly figure intent on rowing her to the "other side". But for Iona, it all feels a little too convenient. Her memories are vibrant as ever. She feels more alive, not less.

This isn't death - just the brink of it.

Iona simply needs to wake up. And she needs your help to do it.

Across is a choose-your-own-adventure ambisonic experience created in Unity. It examines existentialism, anxiety and challenges the sanitisation of death in modern western society.

Supported by Royal Holloway University of London.

gadis ayu terakhir

  • What are the colonial hangovers that have haunted the perceptions of our bodies?

Gadis Ayu Terakhir is a piece of performance art that sits at the intersection of absurdist theatre and traditional dance. Drawing on traditional malay puppet theatre (wayang kulit), the aim is to explore the relationship between neo-colonialism, environmental and intra cultural objectification: showcasing how marginalised identities struggle for their dignity and existence.

Focusing on the (cis) female body, Gadis Ayu Terakhir looks at ways the Southeast Asian woman has been personified through submission and fetishisation, influencing both external and subconscious perceptions of the self.

From a migrant led perspective, colonised frameworks will be interrogated through the mode of stories, movement, projection (via Unreal Engine) and repetition - ending with a reclamation of identity and a celebration of self.

Showcased at Camden People’s Theatre. Supported by the Arcola Theatre Lab Scheme.

Hunger

  • An exploration of blurred borders: geographical, mental and interrelational.

    I met the devil once.
In a dream, on the eve of my 22nd birthday.
Strange; how dreams bleed out into reality.
I woke up not as myself, but a sliver of the person I used to be.
The past 22 years and all those lived experiences had been erased.
I was back to the little girl with the swollen eyes and sparrow’s voice, crying for the parents who slept 20,000 miles away in Seletar.

Then, just as our dreams effervesce and evaporate in those first waking seconds, that girl disappeared too.

Leaving behind nothing but a memory.

Utilising rotoscoping, Hunger is nestled in the middle of a Singaporean woman’s mind as she navigates her worsening dream reality confusion.

    Between lighting
